The 10 best apps for the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact

The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is without doubt one of the best sub-5in smartphones on the market today. In fact, we'd go so far as to declare it the best mini Android phone.

It has a great build, great battery life, great camera and great specs. So all you need to do is give it some great apps to play with. We suggest you start with these 10.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery (£2.80)
Body:

This endearing adventure game sees you take control of an unnamed female character in a quest to "solve mystical musical mysteries". It looks brilliant and sounds even better. The Sony's ability to serve up deliciously bright colours on its 720p screen and deliver superb sound through headphones (which the game recommends) make S: S&S a true test for your phone.

Twickets (£free)
Body:

Never miss a concert again thanks to Twickets. The app enables people to post tickets for all sorts of events including gigs, sporting events, nightclub tickets, theatre and even travel, and better still does so in a way that should spell an end to the heinous crime of touting: all tickets have to be posted for face value.

Google News & Weather (£free)
Body:

With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop - coming very soon to the Z3 Compact - Google has redesigned its stock apps to reflect its new Material Design philsophy. The News & Weather app has received the makeover treatment and now makes browsing the day's news a joyful experience. You can choose which categories are most important to you and order them accordingly. You can also choose to set the weather based on the phone's location via GPS, or you can set a permanent location to monitor.

Qobuz (Free/£19.99 per month)
Body:

The Xperia Z3 Compact is one of a still rather small number of phones that's capable of playing high-resolution music. Qobuz happens to be one of only a small number of music streaming apps that can stream in 16-bit/44.1kHz. That's CD-quality to us regular folk, and better than Spotify's 320kbps. The app is rather easy to use, with recommended content available on the home page. And you can read a full review of it on our sister website Whathifi.com right now.

Airbnb (£free)
Body:

One of the big winners in the crowdsourcing revolution, Airbnb has changed the way many people find a place to stay on holiday. You simply search for a room/apartment/house/chalet in the city and country of your choice, then take your pick from the privately owned accommodation on offer. You do still have to find your own way of getting there mind, but even so there are major savings to be made.

7 Minute Workout (Free)
Body:

You didn't expect to get through a New Year app recommendation post without there being one for losing weight did you?

We all promise to shed a few kilos after consuming unhealthy amounts of food over the festive period, but very rarely stick to our guns. 7 Minute Workout takes just 8 minutes out of your day to exercise. Oh alright then, 7 minutes.

It's based on High Intensity Circuit Training and asks you to complete 13 exercises lasting for 30 seconds each. It's not as bad as it sounds though; you get a 10-second break between each exercise. Yeah, thanks for that.

Waze (£free)
Body:

Waze is different to most other sat-nav apps on the Play store in that it relies heavily on social interaction: if you get stuck in a traffic jam while on your jouney and it doesn't know about it, you can let it know to warn other drives.

You can also warn others of accidents, road blocks and even if the rozzers are about. For each activity you share you earn points, which go towards changing up your avatar. The more you work your way up the pecking order, the more likely other users are going to trust what you say.
